Paralegal/Legal Assistant

City: Upland

Under general supervision, performs standard and advanced secretarial/administrative duties.
Coordinates activities for attorney to include maintaining a master calendar for hearing, depositions, and other activities such as transcription and scheduling appointments.
Provides initial screening evaluation and prioritizing of work
Schedules depositions, medical exams, etc. ensuring proper notification is provided
Orders records being subpoenaed
Tracks and enters own billable activities per guidelines
Use WordPerfect, HotDocs, LexisNexis, workers' compensation and other reference materials as needed in performance of work duties
Utilizes computer database (Practicemaster) for initial case entry and maintenance of activity for each assigned file
Maintains a diary/ticker for activities to be performed on all assigned file.
Closely monitors dairy/ticker for assigned attorney to enable support of attorney's action plan.
Serves medical reports/records, maintains medical records and reviews files prior to hearing and depositions to ensure medical records are up to date
Develops professional relationships with internal and external customer through communication with clients, providers, peers and management staff
Assists in the processing of mail, assigning code as to correspondence, pleadings, medical, liens, vocational rehab, etc.


Pay Range: $40-$50,000/yr DOE

Required Skills: Must demonstrate superior skills with a general understanding of workers' compensation benefits, organizational practices and procedures. A Certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association OR A certificate of completion of paralegal at, or a degree from, a post secondary institution that requires the successful completion of a min. of 24 semester, or equivalent unit in law related courses A baccalaureate degree or advanced degree in any subject and a minimum of one year of law related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of CA for at least the preceding three years and a written declaration for this attorney stating that the person is qualified to perform paralegal tasks A high school diploma and a minimum of three years of law related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of CA for at least the preceding three years and a written declaration for this attorney stating that the person is qualified to perform paralegal tasks
